Course description

Eco-Art In Action - DescriptionIn a world increasingly shaped by environmental challenges, art plays a key role in fostering sustainable mindset and responsible behaviours. Art, as a powerful form of expression and exploration, offers unique opportunities to engage learners with environmental issues in meaningful, hands-on, and creative ways.

This training course invites participants to explore the intersection between art and sustainability, focusing on how creative practices can support environmental awareness, recycling, and upcycling. Guided by experiential and practice-based learning, participants will discover how to transform natural and reused materials into artistic expressions, while developing a deeper connection with the environment.

The course emphasises the use of eco-friendly materials and artistic techniques that minimise environmental impact, encouraging participants to rethink waste, reuse resources, and integrate sustainability into their educational or professional practice. Through observation, experimentation, and creation, participants will develop both artistic skills and environmental consciousness.

“Eco-Art in Action” will focus on the following areas:

  • Exploring nature as a source of inspiration for artistic creation
  • Observing and translating environmental elements into visual expression
  • Selecting and preparing sustainable and eco-friendly art materials
  • Applying painting techniques using natural and low-impact resources
  • Creating artworks through recycling and upcycling practices
  • Developing three-dimensional artistic creations using reused materials
  • Encouraging environmental awareness through creative processes
  • Integrating eco-art practices into educational and community settings

Training schedule

Eco-Art In Action - Schedule 1

Nature as Inspiration

Participants begin with a visual exploration activity using curated images, videos, and natural objects brought into the training space, such as leaves, wood pieces, or stones.

Through guided observation, they analyse patterns, textures, and colours found in nature. This is followed by a sketching session where participants translate these elements into drawings or abstract representations. A creative exercise encourages participants to connect emotions with natural forms, while a collaborative activity leads to the creation of a shared “indoor nature inspiration board” using printed visuals and collected materials.

Reflection at the end of the day helps participants understand how environmental awareness can be cultivated without direct outdoor exposure.

Eco-Art In Action - Schedule 2

Sustainable Materials and Creative Preparation

The day begins with a hands-on activity where participants examine and categorise different recycled and natural materials brought into the session. This is followed by a practical workshop on creating simple natural pigments using materials such as onion leaves, turmeric, or spinach.

Participants then experiment with preparing recycled paper or alternative surfaces for painting. A short creative challenge invites them to design a small artwork using only reused materials.

Group discussion and reflection focus on how material choices influence both artistic outcomes and environmental impact.

Eco-Art In Action - Schedule 3

Eco-Friendly Painting Techniques

Participants begin with guided demonstrations of techniques such as layering, texture creation, and blending using natural pigments.

This is followed by a hands-on creative lab where participants produce their own eco-friendly painting, inspired by the natural elements explored on Day 1. A peer-sharing moment allows participants to present their work and exchange feedback.

The day also includes a short activity where participants modify or improve an existing artwork using additional recycled materials, reinforcing the idea of reuse and transformation.

Eco-Art In Action - Schedule 4

Upcycling and 3D Artistic Creation

The day begins with a creative warm-up challenge where participants are given random recycled objects and asked to quickly assemble a small sculpture.

This is followed by a more structured workshop where participants design and create a 3D artwork using materials such as discarded cardboard, plastic, wood, or fabric.

A collaborative group activity invites participants to build a collective installation, encouraging teamwork and shared creativity.

Eco-Art In Action - Schedule 5

From Creation to Application

Participants begin by setting up a small exhibition of their work, creating a gallery-style space where all pieces are displayed.

A guided “gallery walk” allows participants to observe and discuss each other’s creations, fostering dialogue and inspiration. This is followed by a practical workshop where participants design a simple eco-art activity that they could implement in their own professional context.

The day concludes with reflection on learning outcomes, sharing of ideas, and the development of a personal action plan for integrating eco-art and sustainability into their work.
