Your Erasmus+ Application Journey

Need support with your Erasmus+ proposal?

Step 1: Understanding the Erasmus+ Programme

The first step in preparing a successful Erasmus+ application is gaining a clear understanding of the programme’s structure, priorities, and funding opportunities. Applicants should carefully review the Erasmus+ Programme Guide for the relevant year to identify the most suitable Key Action and project type for their organisation.

Erasmus+ supports activities that strengthen education, training, youth development, and international cooperation. By exploring the programme guidelines, organisations can better understand eligibility criteria, funding priorities, and how their project ideas align with European objectives.

Step 2: Checking Eligibility

Before developing a project proposal, organisations must confirm that they meet the eligibility requirements for Erasmus+ funding. In most cases, applications must be submitted by organisations such as schools, universities, training providers, NGOs, or public institutions rather than individuals.

Depending on the Key Action and project type, applicants may also need to form partnerships with organisations from other participating countries. Understanding the eligibility criteria early helps ensure that the project proposal meets the programme’s formal requirements and funding conditions.

Step 3: Defining Your Project Idea

Once eligibility is confirmed, the next step is to clearly define the project concept. This includes identifying the needs or challenges your organisation wants to address and outlining the objectives, expected results, and target groups of the project.

A strong Erasmus+ proposal demonstrates how the project contributes to European priorities such as innovation, inclusion, digital transformation, or sustainability.

Step 4: Building Partnerships

Many Erasmus+ projects require collaboration between organisations from different participating countries. Establishing reliable and complementary partners is essential for developing a strong and impactful project.

Partnerships allow organisations to share expertise, exchange good practices, and develop solutions that benefit multiple communities across Europe.

Step 5: Preparing the Application

At this stage, the project idea is translated into a formal proposal using the Erasmus+ application forms. This process involves detailing the project activities, timeline, methodology, budget

Careful preparation and alignment with the programme priorities significantly increase the chances of a successful application.

Step 6: Submission and Evaluation

After completing the application, the proposal is submitted through the official Erasmus+ funding portal before the programme deadline. The project is then evaluated by experts based on criteria such as relevance, quality of design, partnership strength, and potential impact.

Successful proposals receive funding and proceed to the implementation phase, where the project activities are carried out and monitored.

Step 7: Results notification

Once the application is submitted, it is assessed by independent evaluators based on criteria such as relevance, quality of the project design, partnership structure, and expected impact. Projects that meet the programme’s standards are selected for funding.

After approval, the project enters the implementation phase. Organisations begin carrying out the planned activities, monitoring progress, and sharing results to ensure that the project delivers meaningful outcomes and contributes to the objectives of the Erasmus+ programme.
