Course description

Emotional Intelligence - Description

In contemporary educational environments, educators are increasingly required to navigate complex emotional dynamics, both within themselves and in their interactions with learners. Emotional intelligence (EQ) is a critical competence that supports effective teaching, positive classroom climates, and sustainable professional well-being.

This training course is designed to strengthen participants’ emotional competencies through a structured, experiential, and reflective learning approach. Participants will explore how emotions influence cognition, behaviour, decision-making, and interpersonal relationships within educational settings.

The course adopts a practice-oriented methodology, enabling participants to actively engage in self-reflection, collaborative learning, and real-life application of emotional intelligence strategies. Emphasis is placed on developing emotional awareness, managing challenging situations, fostering empathy, and improving communication in diverse classroom contexts.

The training course will focus on the following areas:

  • Foundations and relevance of emotional intelligence in education
  • Core emotional competencies and their application in teaching practice
  • Neuropsychological mechanisms underlying emotions and behaviour
  • Emotional awareness and self-reflection techniques
  • Emotional regulation and stress management strategies
  • Empathy development and relationship-building in the classroom
  • Communication strategies for constructive interaction and conflict management

Emotional Intelligence schedule 2

Getting to Know Ourselves and Others

The first day introduces participants to the concept of emotional intelligence through a series of interactive and reflective activities designed to build trust and group cohesion. Participants begin with an icebreaker that encourages openness and connection, followed by a personality or self-awareness questionnaire that helps them explore their individual characteristics.

Through guided exercises such as identifying and naming emotions using visual tools and engaging in structured reflection, participants start to recognise how emotions influence their thoughts, behaviours, and interactions.

The day concludes with a group discussion where participants share insights about the role of emotions in both personal and professional contexts.

Emotional Intelligence schedule 1

Understanding Emotional Intelligence in Practice

On the second day, participants deepen their understanding of the key components of emotional intelligence and how these manifest in everyday situations.

The session begins with an activity that highlights personal strengths, encouraging participants to recognise and appreciate their own capacities as well as those of others. This is followed by a facilitated exploration of emotional intelligence components, supported by collaborative exercises where participants connect theory to real-life classroom experiences.

Through self-assessment tools and guided reflection, participants analyse their own emotional habits and behavioural patterns, while group discussions allow them to exchange perspectives and learn from one another.

Emotional Intelligence schedule 3

The Science of Emotions and Behaviour

The third day focuses on understanding the underlying mechanisms of emotions and their impact on behaviour and decision-making.

Participants engage with multimedia material that introduces basic concepts related to how the brain processes emotions. This is followed by practical activities such as analysing case studies based on classroom scenarios, where participants explore how emotional responses influence actions and outcomes.

Through interactive exercises that link emotions to reactions, participants reflect on how they respond under pressure and how these responses affect their professional practice. Group discussions further support the consolidation of learning.

Emotional Intelligence schedule 5

Building Emotional Resilience and Positive Environments

During the fourth day, participants focus on developing strategies to manage emotions effectively and build resilience in challenging situations.

The day begins with a positive mindset or gratitude-based activity, setting the tone for exploring emotional regulation techniques such as breathing exercises and cognitive reframing. Participants then engage in role-play scenarios that simulate difficult classroom situations, allowing them to practice responding with confidence and empathy.

Additional activities, including self-affirmation exercises and collaborative problem-solving tasks, support participants in identifying constructive approaches to managing challenges and fostering supportive learning environments

Emotional Intelligence schedule 4

Applying Emotional Intelligence in Relationships and Practice

The final day is dedicated to applying emotional intelligence skills in communication and professional relationships.

Participants take part in activities that strengthen empathy and active listening, such as structured dialogue exercises. Through scenario-based discussions, they explore how to apply emotional intelligence strategies in real-life contexts.

The day also includes a reflective component, where participants evaluate their learning journey and identify key takeaways.

Finally, participants develop a simple action plan outlining how they will integrate emotional intelligence practices into their professional settings, followed by course evaluation and closure
